Kenya: Cooperatives to Boost Fish Farming, Food Security - Agriculture Chief - kenyadetails

The Mombasa county government will promote aquaculture to boost food production. Agriculture executive Anthony Njaramba said there will be five ponds and a cold storage facility in each of the 30 wards in the county.

"We want ensure all residents have enough to eat and surplus to sell," said Njaramba during an interview in Mombasa town on Saturday.

He said fishing can be done in spaces available in private homes and compounds.

"A fish pond is not complicated. It just needs to be 1m high. It can be a container or a dug hole," Njaramba said.

He said a 10mX10m or a 10mX12m space can accommodate about 500-1,000 fingerlings, which can be harvested every four months.
