The Kwale county administration has opened a model health centre at Kasemeni location in Kinango.
The Mnyenzeni health facility has been serving as a dispensary and was constructed through the Economic Stimulus Programme. It was officially opened by Governor Salim Mvurya
who upgraded it to a health centre over the weekend.
Kasemeni ward representative Anthony Yama said the setting up of the centre cost Sh16.2million instead of the initial allocation of Sh40million provided by the government.
He said the balance should be provided by the government to ensure more blocks are constructed to ensure health services are provided.
The centre has a labour ward, paediatric ward, ante-natal ward, post-natal ward, kitchen and wash rooms. Mvurya, who was accompanied by Kinango MP Ngozi Rai, Kwale county commissioner Evans Achoki, county director of health Hajara El-Busaidy and executive officers said the government is keen on ensuring health services are available to members of the public. Dr El-Busaidy said the department plans to increase officers at the health centre.
