Many of the 7,500 delegates at the recent Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town City said investors are starting to look elsewhere in Africa for new opportunities, as the future of big mining in South Africa seems shaky due to the issues in 2012 that negatively affected production.

Kenya’s president has launched a $14.5bn (£9.1bn) project to build a new city intended to be an IT business hub and dubbed “Africa’s Silicon Savannah“.
It will take 20 years to build Konza Technology City about 60km (37 miles) from the capital, Nairobi.

Trade between China and Africa has displayed sustainable growth despite the ongoing global financial crisis. According to Chinese customs data, Sino-African trade value rose 31% to $166.3 billion last year. As of April 2012, China’s direct investment in Africa totalled $15.3 billion – a 30-fold increase from a decade ago – and China has been Africa’s largest trading partner for the last three years.
