Plans of constructing a fertilizer plant by the government are on high gear, Agriculture Assistant minister Kareke Mbiuki has said. Mbiuki said soon farmers will start benefiting from cheaply priced fertilizer after the government implements the plan of building the fertilizer factory. He lamented that high prices of farm inputs including artificial fertilizer have been a big drawback to farmers in producing high quality and adequate produce to feed the nation and also for export.

Kareke was officially opening the Eastern Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) show at the Embu's Njukiri show ground. He said with the construction of the plant the government will no longer depend on imported fertilizer and that it will be able to supply the farmers with cheaper ones to enable them produce enough food crops and cash crops for the benefit of the whole population.
