House team clears sale plan for Hilton and InterCon hotels

Two leading global hotel chains have been cleared to acquire substantial interests in the Hilton and InterContinental hotels in Nairobi.
The green light follows a proposal by the Treasury to give the Hilton Group of Hotels, InterContinental Hotels Corporation and other shareholders in the establishments priority in buying the shares being offloaded by the Kenya Tourist Development Corporation.
Kenya Q3 growth rate picks up on agriculture boost

NAIROBI: Kenya’s economy expanded by 4.7 percent in the third quarter of this year from 4 percent in the same period last year, boosted by agriculture and manufacturing, the statistics office said on Monday.
On a seasonally-adjusted basis, east Africa’s biggest economy grew by 2.2 percent in the third quarter, up from 0.5 percent in the second.
Kenya: Flower Farm Workers Pay Set to Increase

The minimum salary for flower farm workers in the country is expected to rise to Sh10,000 per month if parliament passes the miscellaneous amendment on the labor institution act.
This would also see the working conditions for the thousands of workers change if thenew salaries are set.
Kenya: Kibos Sugar to Generate Own Power

Kibos Sugar company plans to diversify its products to include ethanol, paper, and electricity, according to its chairman Sukwinder Chathe.
He said they plan to invest more than Sh4.8 billion to undertake the diversification programme. The projects will begin next year. “We have agreed with a financier who will do all this, for us, †he said in Kisumu.
