Drugs firm injects Ksh1bn in 4 new medicines

Laboratory & Allied has launched new medicines in the East African market to help alleviate various conditions. The pharmaceutical company has invested Kshs1 billion towards the development and launch of the four new medicines as the company celebrates 45 years since inception.
Laboratory & Allied CEO Suprakash Mandal said the four medicines have also been laucnhed in Tanzania and Ethiopia. “Out of these, 30% has been directed towards increasing production capacity, an additional 30% towards packaging and 40% towards registration of the products in the respective countries,” said Mr Mandal.
Unilever opens $1.5M Vaseline production factory in Kenya to meet skin care demands

Unilever has opened a new KES155 million (€1.3 million) factory in Kenya which will be focused on the production of its Vaseline products, as it looks to meet the growing demands in the region for quality skin care products.
The new state-of-the-art facility, which is based in Nairobi, serves the East African market and some countries in the COMESA region such as Zambia and Zimbabwe and will double the production of Vaseline petroleum jelly.
The company adds that the new production line comes with the latest technology available from Unilever globally.

Kenya Requires 50,000 Nurses

KENYA has a deficit of 50,000 health workers, Kenya Medical Training College Board chairman Philip Kaloki has said.
He said 50 per cent of the 6,500 health workers who graduate at Kenya Medical Training College each year, leave for greener pastures outside the country.
Shelter Afrique Boost Kenya Medical Association Housing plan

Pan African housing and habitat development financier Shelter Afrique has extended a Sh740 million development loan to Kenya Medical Association Housing Co-operative for the construction of 160 housing units in Mtwapa, Mombasa County.
The five year loan will be priced at 13.5 percent. Speaking at the loan signing ceremony, Shelter Afrique Acting Managing Director Mr. Yekini Olayanju said that the funds are earmarked to co-finance the development of project.
