Reported just before the weekend in local media and in a press release, Kenya has – with support by the African Development Bank (AfDB) received approval from the Climate Investment Funds Clean Technology Fund (CIF-CTF) for a US $29.65-million concessional loan to co-finance up to two geothermal projects of combined up to 70 MW in capacity in Menengai.
The Concessional Finance Program for Geothermal Generation will build on the energy advancements already underway in the successful development of the country's showcase Menengai Geothermal Field.

Kenya will set up investors near geothermal plants to cut the cost of electricity and offer subsidies in order to compete with her neighbours.
Mr Mohamed said on Thursday that they will set up investors at the shores of Lake Naivasha near the geothermal power plant to cut transmission charges to make Kenya attractive.We are going to set them up at Naivasha near the geothermal plant where power is much cheaper since it is at the source, he said.He was speaking when he met a trade delegation composed of investors from China, the US, Australia, the Netherlands and Bangladesh who will also be visiting Tanzania and Ethiopia.

Mutli-million dollar Tatu City in Kenya appoints American firm to outline for power supply

A multi-million satellite complex Tatu City in Kenya , has announced that it had appointed US-based firm Power Engineers Inc to plan on power infrastructure for use within the industrial complex.
Power Engineers is one of the largest consulting engineering firms in the United States
Tatu City in Kenya management said that The Power Engineers Inc is well suited for the job having worked with clients such as the World Bank, US Trade and Development Agency and Inter-American Development Bank.
UK govt invites private contractors to generate solar power for Turkana villages

The UK government has invited contractors to generate solar power for three villages in Turkana County in a new business model aimed at promoting privately operated mini-grids.
The project, funded through the Department for International Development (DFID), aims at promoting the use of solar power in far-flung regions not connected to the national electricity grid.
The project, being implemented by Barclays Bank of Kenya, has invited the contractors to apply for the funds that will be used in the purchase and installation of Solar PV Hybrid Mini-grid in Lolupe, Nadwat and Katabol villages.
