Kenya: Bungoma Signs Agreement With Spanish Agricultural Firm

A Spanish research institute has signed a deal with the Bungoma government to boost agriculture.
Governor Kenneth Lusaka signed the agreement with IRTA, an agricultural researchinstitute owned by the government of Catalonia on Tuesday in Spain.
IRTA will provide technological know how and funds to support the agricultural sector in Bungoma county, Lusaka said.
Lusaka is leading a delegation from the county government on a nine-day tour of variors cities in Spain.

Ecobank Group to strengthen Kenyan subsidiary

Togolese-based Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) has announced plans to revamp its operations in Kenya by injecting fresh capital. The idea is to make Ecobank Kenya, the group’s hub in the East Africa region. This comes at a time when Ecobank Kenya, is gaining its foothold in Kenya after acquiring the former East African Building Society (EABS).

Kenya ranks among the leading Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) destinations in Africa, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Secretary General Mukhisa Kituyi has said.
Dr Kituyi said Nigeria and Ethiopia complete the list of the most attractive investments destinations for foreign capital on the continent.

Kenya’s Equity Bank launches paper-thin SIM card tech

Kenya’s Equity Bank plans introducing paper-thin SIM cards to help its customers access the bank’s mobile money service without needing to use dual-SIM phones.
Equity’s chief executive, James Mwangi, has said the bank’s SIM cards will consist of 0.1 millimeter thick film that can be layered on an active side of customers’ original SIM cards, without affecting the customers’ original service providers’ network reception.
