Construction of Kenya’s six-lane highway moved a notch higher after Kenyan and US government and a California-based construction and engineering firm Bechtel held a successful meeting.
Head of the US government’s Overseas Private Investment Corporation (Opic) Elizabeth Littlefield and Bechel signed what they called a letter of interest regarding Kenya’s Six-Lane highway that is Nairobi-Mombasa highway project on the sidelines of the US-Africa Business Forum in New York early this week.

Dangote shakes Kenya’s cement market with imports from Ethiopia

Nigeria’s Dangote Cement has embarked on a shake-up of Kenya’s cement market with imports of cement from its plant in Ethiopia in preparation for establishment of a local manufacturing plant.
Dangote’s entry into the Kenya’s cement market with low-cost cement from Ethiopia is expected to drive prices downward in a market where they have remained static for almost 10 years.

Construction begins for Wangari Maathai Institute in Kenya

The construction of an ultramodern centre at the University of Nairobi in memory of Nobel Laureate Wangari Maathai has kicked off in Kenya.
The Institute estimated to cost US$1.4 billion has been designed by South African firm dhk Architects.
Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta this week laid the foundation stone for the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies at the university.

Kenya launches dualisation of road notorious with traffic jams

Kenya has launched the dualisation of road that will see the road, notorious with traffic jams expanded. The road dualisation project is expected to cost around KSh1.3bn(US$13m).
Ngong road is known for being one of the most congested roads in Nairobi County. A commuter can take several hours before reaching the city centre.World Bank reports that Nairobi loses up to Sh12 billion on monthly basis due to traffic jams.
