Kenya begins construction of ‘silicon’ city Konza

Kenya’s president has launched a $14.5bn (£9.1bn) project to build a new city intended to be an IT business hub and dubbed “Africa’s Silicon Savannah“.

It will take 20 years to build Konza Technology City about 60km (37 miles) from the capital, Nairobi.

House team clears sale plan for Hilton and InterCon hotels

Two leading global hotel chains have been cleared to acquire substantial interests in the Hilton and InterContinental hotels in Nairobi.

The green light follows a proposal by the Treasury to give the Hilton Group of Hotels, InterContinental Hotels Corporation and other shareholders in the establishments priority in buying the shares being offloaded by the Kenya Tourist Development Corporation.

Trade between China and Africa has displayed sustainable growth despite the ongoing global financial crisis. According to Chinese customs data, Sino-African trade value rose 31% to $166.3 billion last year. As of April 2012, China’s direct investment in Africa totalled $15.3 billion – a 30-fold increase from a decade ago – and China has been Africa’s largest trading partner for the last three years.

Sales for the Thika Greens Golf Estate begun in 2009, after which the developer embarked on building requisite infrastructure and amenities on site.
