Tea agency to pump Sh4.8bn in power plants

The Kenya Tea Development Agency plans to construct four hydropower plants at a cost of Sh4.8 billion to meet electricity demand at some of its factories.
The plants will cumulatively generate 10.9 megawatts of electricity that will power some of its tea factories while the excess will be sold to the government.
Speaking during a groundbreaking event at North Mathioya, Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) chief executive officer Lerionka Tiampati said the company was keen on ensuring that its factories in tea-growing regions have access to alternative energy to help cut operation costs.
Kenya and Uganda map the route of new oil pipeline

Kenya and neighbouring Uganda have agreed on the route of a planned US$4.5bn oil pipeline, the link that will transport crude from companies including Tullow Oil
The pipeline will pass through the Lokichar Basin in northern Kenya, Manoah Esipisu, spokesperson for Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The countries had also discussed building the link through southern Kenya and the capital Nairobi. The agreed design will be the cheapest to develop, according to the spokesperson.
Kenya Sets Pace As East Africa Vehicle Market Grows

NAIROBI – Rising demand for commercial vehicles and luxury cars pushed new and used motor-vehicle registrations in Kenya to nearly 100,000 units last year, according to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics.
Reporting in the agency’s 2015 economic survey, director general Zachary Mwangi notes the 102,606 newly registered motor vehicles in the country in 2014 was up about 9.0% from 94,017 units in 2013. Both totals include trailers.
“Specifically, the number of commercial panel vans and pickups increased by 28%, from 9,819 units in 2013 to 12,568 units in 2014,” Mwangi says.
East Africa: Uhuru and Museveni Strike Deal On Route for Oil Pipeline

Kenya and Uganda have settled on the northern route for the crude oil pipeline that will transport oil from Albertine to Lokichar in Turkana County.
The agreement was made during President Uhuru Kenyatta's state visit to Uganda, where he signed several bilateral agreements with President Yoweri Museveni.
President Kenyatta's spokesman, Mr Manoah Esipisu, said the two leaders agreed that "subject to financing, security guarantees by Kenya, the Hoima-Lokichar-Lamu oil pipeline starts as soon as possible."
